Damage can occur to your windshield for many reasons. A stone can kick up in the wheels and hit your windshield causing a chip to occur. If a stone has just dinged or chipped the windshield you might be able to get it repaired instead of having to replace the whole thing. With new resins today that can be applied on the glass, repairs are able to be made. Remember that windshields are made with a layer of vinyl in them. This is part of the reason that these resins can work along with how the resins adhere to the glass. It cost less to repair a ding than replace a whole windshield too.
Often times when you have been in a car wreck your windshield is damaged beyond what a simple repair will fix. Then you have to get the whole windshield taken out and replaced. This does not take a lot of time. Some of the places now are using a new quick-set adhesive that allows you to drive away after waiting just a short time. It used to be that you would have to let the car sit for several hours before it could be driven.
Now hail storms can play havoc all over your car not just the windshield. Sometimes you can have the windshield repaired as when it is damaged with a small stone, but other times if it has too much damage it will need to be replaced. It just depends on how extensively broken it is. If the hail was just pea size the damage may not be bad enough to replace the whole windshield. But if it was golf-ball size or bigger than you probably will have to replace the whole thing.
Now there are other freak things that happen weather wise besides hail. Trees can fall over, floods happen, hurricanes, and tornadoes. All of them cause damage that may result you needing auto glass replacement. Of course these things don't happen every day.
There are many reasons for a windshield to have to be fixed or replaced. You need to make sure to go to a certified specialist to have your glass replaced in the car. The windshield needs to be installed according to the latest safety standards today. Standards are being upgraded all the time, and the specialist should be up on all the new changes.
Check out your local auto glass replacement shop and make sure they have all the certification needed. Remember your safety depends on your windshield being installed correctly. If you can't see through your windshield you can't very well drive. So if your windshield is chipped, dinged, or cracked have it repaired or replaced today.
